What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide a comprehensive quote, we need to know as much about the event as possible. If it's a wedding, for example, what time does the ceremony take place? When is the breakfast? What time do evening guests begin arriving? So we can help plan the flow of the night (because you don't want to keep stopping the party for different things), we need to know what time you plan on having evening food, the more details we get, the better the night will be for you.
Knowing the size of the venue, the number of guests and the layout of the space helps us choose the right sound and lighting system for your shindig - it's all about finer details adding up to the perfect experience. Tell us if there are any sound-limiters (a DJ's worst nightmare) as these will contribute to an event that flops.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
There's lots of advice we can give about hiring the right disco for your event, but like choice of car or outfit to wear, your disco is a very personal choice so instead here's our top three tips to ensuring you get the best night.
1. Always ensure that the bar or "drinks station" is in the same room as the disco - for the best atmosphere you want the room as busy as possible.
2. Plan to finish the event or party at a reasonable time and when it is still busy. Go out with a bang leaving people wanting more and they will remember your party, going home feeling great.
3. Choose a disco that looks professional and has invested heavily in equipment. Ensure their lighting does more than just Red Blue and Green as primary colours of light do not create a nice atmosphere. Make sure their sound is crisp and balanced - there's nothing worse than distortion or poor sound quality.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We started Streetlife Disco in 1996 to cater for parties, events and weddings - we have always loved what we do. Career progression saw our DJ move into radio, followed by a spot of TV and into the biggest and busiest nightspots across the south. After a shift in "going out culture" in recent years, we decided to re-vamp Streetlife disco and update how people perceive mobile discos. They are not the tacky family party "Dave double decks Cheesy DJ" service that some might think. We, for example operate two systems, (depending on the size of venue and customer requirements) both of which only use tour grade sound systems and computer controlled lighting that looks stunning, creating the perfect atmosphere for any event. We go to where the party is and actually prefer presenting a mobile disco to working in club land. When people go to a club, they go there because they're meeting friends and it's the place to be seen. When people go to a mobile disco, they're all going to celebrate one cause and are all going to party - it's just better that way.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Overall we are happy with the service. It provides numerous leads we wouldn't otherwise have found. A family member operates a "street kitchen" providing waffles, coffee and pizza and they do a roaring trade through Add to Event, their conversion rate is high as they have a monopoly on what they do. We joined on their recommendation.
