Watts Face Painting offers face painting, glitter tattoos, festival glitter eye designs and reusable hair braids/wraps. Here they also offer lots of information about themselves and also some great in depth advice on what to check and ask a face painter if you need one for your event.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
We need all the information relevant to the event. Date. Where - including full address and postcode, contact telephone number, number of faces to be painted, age of participants. If it's indoor or outdoor. Email address for us to send you the service agreement. A non-return service charge is needed to confirm the date. Usually, children under 3 Years are not painted due to Public Liability Insurance and Manufacturers of our products recommendation as young children's skin are sensitive.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
FACE PAINTER
Please make sure you ask if they use cosmetic grade products. It has been known for hobbyists to use acrylic paint and craft glue and craft glitter. This can cause irritation, sensitivity or allergic reaction. Ask If they have Public Liability Insurance. The professional face painter will have an up to date one. Ask to see their photos of their own work, not others. Face painters do not need DBS checks as they are not left with children alone. Parents or carers have the responsibility of their children not the face painter and an adult in charge of the children should always be with the queue of children.
VENUE
Ideally, the face painter needs a well-lit area perhaps with access to a plug socket if it is in a dark corner or low light like wintertime and have plenty of room to accommodate a possible queue. We tend to like to be against a wall. This stops members of public knocking or picking up our equipment. A pot of professional face paint averages £10. It also helps us to manage people standing around watching, we have to be careful that we are not knocked when we have a brush in our hands and painting a face perhaps poking the eye.
If the venue is outside in hot weather the face painter will need shelter from the sun. Most face painters have their own gazebo but of course, this takes time to set up which will affect the price of a quote but a conversation with the face painter can iron out any questions either party have. The same goes for winter weather. Extreme heat or cold affects the paints so we do have to look after our stock. Ask your face painter questions, we want you to be stress-free when it comes to hiring us.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I was a fine art pet portrait artist before I began face painting. It was actually my daughter's suggestion, we were just queuing outside a soft play centre and she noticed a sign on the door asking for a face painter. I took some lessons, met lots of lovely face painters who encouraged me. They took me to Jams which was amazing. I painted for the soft play centre which was a great experience and learning curve but eventually branched out and now have my own business. With my face painting buddies we have painted for Ascot Race Course, Smyths Toys, Huawei Phones as examples of Corporate events and my bread and butter is now earned by face painting for birthday parties and seasonal events like fetes and fairs, festivals.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I am so happy to be part of Add to Event. It has boosted my business and I get excited when I receive my email notifications. I recently attended a Birthday and got a great review. I recommend the platform to both my fellow face painters, customers and friends and family. It so easy to use and takes away the headache of looking for a valued service for your occasion.
